Hi everyone, last week I bought a couple of canaries, of the “jaspe” mutation, a male Black Jaspe DD Yellow Intensive (Double Dilution) and a female Black Jaspe SD Yellow Schimmel (Simple Dilution). Breeding between two Double Dilution should be avoided, because of a very high lethal rate.

This mutation opens a lot of new possibilities of different phenotypes in colour canaries. It is known from long ago in some European birds like the “carduelis spinus”, it was transmitted to the South American “carduelis magellanica”, and from this one was transmitted to the canary by Mr. Jose Antonio, Abellan Baños, a breeder from Murcia, Spain, which in 1996 obtained the first hybrids “F1” fertile.
In 2003 started its way of recognition in Spain, in 2009 was founded in France the “European Jaspe Club”, and actually is on its way of recognition by the “OMJ/COM”. Recently has taken place the 3rd European Jaspe Championship, in Bordeaux, France.

The “jaspe” mutation makes a dilution of “melaninas” blacks and browns, leaving the “lipocromo” and the “feomelalina” untouched, it also has what it seems to be an other mutation, “The flying marks” this are yellow or white marks on middle of the external long feathers of the wings and tails.
The “jaspe” mutation is an “autosómica” dominant with effect of addition, it can be Simple Dilution (Heterocigotic) or Doble Dilution (Homocigotic).

In this blog there are many photographs of Jaspe canaries at the Bordeaux Championship:

I hope you will like them.
Best regards.

Hi all, here you have two webs where to watch photographs of beautiful Jaspes and others.
This first web is of a prominent Spanish breeder from Murcia, my home town Mr. Jose Antonio, Abellan the “father” of the Jaspe mutation, here you have many photos of canaries and others, at the bottom/center you have to click on each variety…you have two groups CON FACTOR this are canaries with red factor, and SIN FACTOR which are the rest.
In the last line in the bottom you have a menu you should take sight of… (carduelis sudmericanos - silvestres - híbridos F-1 - fotos de cría)
And before ending with this page don’t miss to click on “Blog de Jose Antonio” in the left side menu near the bottom, this will take to a page where you should click again on the different varieties to see new photos.

The 2nd one is the web of Mr. Mariano Guerrero a prominent Spanish Jaspe breeder from Granada, to whom I bought my Black Jaspe DD yellow intensive, it appears in this web, in the right side, third from last, underlined with “Negro Jaspe Amarillo Intenso DD”, this photo is the one used by the Club European of Canary Jaspe, on its emblem.
