Vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin. It plays an important function in maintaining vital body processes and fertility of most animal species.
It enhances bird's entire metabolism - protein, carbohydrate, fat, mineral and water metabolic processes. it has also a role in enhancing the immune system.
Vitamin E acts as antioxidants, protect other vitamins and is important in cellular respiration, and heart and skeletal muscle tissues.

Vitamin E deficiency: Birds with a vitamin E deficiency will not be active, develop problems in the nervous system, develop blood and vasular disorders, anemia, and muscular disorders.

Vitamin E can be found in whole grains, some cereals, fresh green leafy vegetables such as spinach, in safflower oil, canned peaches, asparagus, broccoli, sweet potatoes, sunflower seeds, walnuts, almonds and whole-grain breads.

In combination with Selenium, Vitamin E is required for the enzyme glutathione peroxidase which is necessary for the elimination, growth retardation and insufficient fertility.
So for proper functioning of this enzyme, vitamin E and selenium should be combined to together.

Glutathione peroxidase: is a selenium containing enzyme, the main role of this enzyme is to protect the organism from oxidative damage. Due to the antioxidant property, this enzyme can improve sperm quality and reduce sperm damage.

So vitamin E + Se should be giving to young birds to increase the immune system, and also should be giving to birds with low fertility and egg hatchability in order to decrease the number of damaged sperms.
