Question :

How can I bathe my cockatiel ?

Answer :

It's very important for cockatiels to have a bath . It helps in moistening their feathers and skin . In the wild cockatiels stay in places where there are plenty of water sources from where they drink and bathe . A regular bath helps cockatiels clean and preen their feathers without being cut or disordered . A wide and deep plate ( bowl ) with plenty of water in is a perfect bathtub for cockatiels . If the cockatiel gets familiar with that bathtub by its own that will be great , and if not you can take the bird under the shower and set the water to be warm avoiding water reaching it's ears ( cheeks ) . Cockatiels should have a bath twice or thrice a week at the beginning of the day . Then the cockatiel is put in the sun to dry - and it's a good chance to take up vitamin D from the sun – away from air drafts . Never ever give a bird a bath at night or before sleeping as it might get sick .

Or you can spray the bird on the daily in the sun with water excessively . This is better than using the shower as cockatiels are smaller in size than larger parrots like African grey parrots .

Best wishes and good luck :)
