The right way of holding cockatiels in hand

Some times the bird owner is obliged to hold the bird tightly in hand for check ups , treatment , moving to another cage in case of untamed birds or any other reason .

The grip should be neat and correct with the bird wings closed during handling .

Image

Take care not to press or put your fingers on the respiratory canals not to suffocate the bird .

This is the true grip . Notice that the fingers are away from respiratory canals where the index holds the back and right side of the head gently and the thumb holds the left side of the head gently .

Image

This grip is wrong . Notice hoe the thumb is pressing on the respiratory canal of the bird which results in suffocation and death .

Image

Take care not to hold the bird strongly not to cause pain to the bird as shown in the photo .

This photo shows the back of the hand while holding the bird .

This photo shows how fingers hold the back of the neck .

This is a side view of the bird held .

Remember that cockatiels can rotate their neck 180 degrees , which eases the chances of getting bites .

Safety and peace for bird are very important conditions in keeping birds , so you must not hold the bird unless it's an emergency .

Best wishes and Good luck :)
