Hi everybody ,

This is the last stage of the cockatiel training course . In this stage we don't depend on any physical activity , as we depend on activating the parrots mind and extending the limits of the parrots intelligence . I'm 100 % sure that the trainer would get astonished by the results of applying this training technique on such a small parrot .

This stage is the most interesting part of training your parrot , as it's going to learn how to interact with its owner , socialize and avoid common behavioral problems such as : biting , screaming , bad temper and acting aggressively .

From the disadvantages of this stage : it requires 2 or more trainers ( I'll get into that later ) . And also it works only for cockatiel parrots which are capable of talking especially males , although some females might talk very well .

Exercise one ( Teaching the parrot its name ) :

The parrot is put in front of the trainers ( suppose two ) as shown in figure . If the parrots name is Coco then the first trainer asks the second trainer ( What's your name ? ) , the second trainer replies ( Coco ) . At the instant the first trainer clicks ( phase 1 ) and gives the second trainer the treat .

Repeat the previous exercise from ten to twenty times successively , never shift the turns ( the one who asks should only ask ) .

The parrot will listen carefully to them and understand that every time the trainer asks that question and the parrot replies correctly it gets a treat .

This exercise has no specific time , it's repeated 3 times a week until the parrot replies when asked . Don't move to the second exercise unless the parrot performs the first one perfectly .

Exercise two ( Teaching the parrot to say hi ) :

The parrot is put in front of the trainers . The first trainer tells the second trainer ( Hi ) , the second trainer replies ( Hello ) . At the instant the first trainer clicks ( phase 1 ) and gives the second trainer the treat .

Repeat the previous exercise from ten to twenty times successively , but now shift the turns ( the one who asks replies and vice versa ) . The reason behind shifting turns is to let the parrot reply when it hears the word ( Hi ) or let it say ( Hello ) and wait for the reply .

This exercise is repeated 3 times a week until the parrot replies when asked . Don't move to the next exercise unless the parrot performs this one perfectly .

By using this ways you can teach your parrot to say hundreds and hundreds of words . This is the first part of the third phase and the main course depends on the 1st and 2nd phases .

In this part I'll discuss how to teach your parrot to differentiate between different matters and that help the parrot to overcome new items fear .

Exercise three ( Teaching the colors ) :

The parrot is put in front of the trainers ( suppose two ) . The first trainer holds a red ( 5 cm x 5 cm ) card with his hand and asks the second trainer ( What color is this ? ) , the second trainer replies ( Red ) . At the instant the first trainer clicks ( phase 1 ) and gives the second trainer the treat .

We start teaching the parrot the primary colors ( red – blue – yellow ) , after that when the parrot recognizes these colors very well we can move to the other colors

This exercise has no specific time , it's repeated 3 times a week until the parrot replies when asked . Don't move to the next exercise unless the parrot performs this one perfectly .

Exercise four ( Teaching the parrot to differentiate between colors ) :

The parrot is put in front of the trainers . The first trainer holds a red , yellow and blue ( 5 cm x 5 cm ) cards with his hand and asks the second trainer ( Which is red ? ) , the second trainer replies ( This ) and points with his finger . At the instant the first trainer clicks ( phase 1 ) and gives the second trainer the treat .

Repeat the previous exercise from ten to twenty times successively , never shift the turns ( the one who asks should only ask ) .

This exercise has no specific time , it's repeated 3 times a week until the parrot replies when asked . Don't move to the next exercise unless the parrot performs this one perfectly .

The same exercises can be used to teach the parrot the letters , numbers or any other thing that can be distinguished by looking at .

This is the last part in this training course . In this part we use the parrots mental abilities to differentiate between textures and sizes .

Exercise five ( Teaching the parrot to differentiate between textures ) :

The parrot is put in front of the trainers . The first trainer holds a piece of wool with his hand then let the parrot taste it and asks the second trainer ( What matter is this ? ) , the second trainer replies ( Wool ) . At the instant the first trainer clicks ( phase 1 ) and gives the second trainer the treat .

We can get the parrot to know other matters such as wood , cotton , sponge , … etc

This exercise has no specific time , it's repeated 3 times a week until the parrot replies when asked . Don't move to the next exercise unless the parrot performs this one perfectly

Exercise six ( Teaching the parrot to differentiate between sizes ) :

Part 1 :

The parrot is put in front of the trainers . The first trainer holds two different sized keys with his hand and asks the second trainer ( Which is bigger ? ) , the second trainer replies ( This ) and points towards it .

Part 2 :

The parrot is put in front of the trainers . The first trainer holds the same keys with his hand and asks the second trainer ( Which is smaller ? ) , the second trainer replies ( This ) and points towards it .

N.B. : The items that I used while training are the items that my parrot feels ok when plays with them so you can use any substance that the parrot feels ok towards them .

* From this point we reach the end of our training program which is summarized as follows and you can try to work on these exercises and make new ideas :

1- Taming : Is the process applied before training to have a tame and domestic bird .

2- Training : Is the process that follows taming in which the parrot learns many new activities and is divided into three categories :

a– Phase one : The parrot learns who is the boss ( himself or his trainer ) .

b- Phase two : A physical training for the bird that helps activate the parrots mind and most people are satisfied with this phase and don't move on and complete the third phase .

c- Phase three : This is related to the talking parrots as it has to do with mind and logic .

Best wishes and good luck :)
